San Francisco-based jazz singer and songwrite, Izumi Hayakawa, was born in Yokohama, Japan.  In high school, she began playing bass (influenced by Sting), composing her own music, and singing in an R&B chorus in Tokyo.

Ms Hayakawa moved to California in 2008 and, later, New York City in 2014.

Special Guest Vocalist  2nd Set 8:30pm - 9:30pm
Phil Nicholas
Vocalist & Drummer Phil Nicholas has been performing in the Bay Area backing various Rock and R&B artists and touring extensively since the age of 13. Feeling grateful and lucky to be raised in San Francisco, the city gave him the opportunity to see, hear and soak in all the diverse live music of the day.

On any given night, Phil can now be seen in front of a microphone interpreting songs, injecting those songs with influences drawn from a jazz/pop format (Sinatra, Steely Dan, Elton John) that resonates with his audiences and always makes for a memorable evening. Phil Nicholas ... A voice to be heard.

Tonight's trio features:
Denny Berthiaume, Chuck Bennett, Bill Belasco

DENNY BERTHIAUME, piano, grew up outside Washington D.C. and Chicago.  He is the only non-California native in the group although San Francisco is his home.  He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Diane Schuur, Joe Williams, Ed Thigpen, Stan Getz, k.d.lang, and Joan Rivers. He recorded 4 albums as co-leader of the successful fusion group Solar Plexus.  He has appeared at jazz festivals in Monterey, the Russian River, San Jose, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  He was professor in literature and music at Foothill College in Los Altos, California (1970-2004) and a published playwright.
