Guest Soloist Valeriana Quevedo

Valeriana is a native San Franciscan born into a show biz family.  She was taught in the home to sing, dance, play Latin percussion, traps, piano and guitar. She is a professional dancer since age 11.  Her father Armando Duval would take her at age 9 to Dolores Park to jam with greats such as Mongo Santa Maria, Santana’s Chepito and most of the Latin percussionists from the Bay Area. Her background in Musical Theatre rounds out her love for Jazz music since a young teenager.   For 12 years she was a cast member of the longest running show in SF and the world, Beach Blanket Babylon.  She was also assistant choreographer of this famous show for two years.
Valeriana has also traveled the United States singing, dancing and choreographing as well as dancing and choreographing for the USO in Germany. She’s traveled to Asia to sing, dance and choreograph at many prestigious night clubs, hotels and restaurants.  Valeriana founded her own dance troupe called Hot Energy who performed at corporate parties. She’s also created and leads two Bands, “The Swinging Gatos” who play songs from The Great American Song Book along with Latin Standards from the Prez Prado era. Here she sings in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The other band is called “The Cincopaters” who play a fusion of Funk, Blues, Soul, R&B, Pop and a touch of Latin Spice.
Martan Mann, improvisational, jazz pianist loves to play in duo-setting with fabulous vocalists and instrumentalists.  The Art of the Duo Music Series will highlight the interplay of top-flight vocalists with pianist, Martan Mann in a totally creative presentation.  The result is an exciting musical freedom.
Martan has worked with great vocalists and instrumentalists such as Jack Jones, Julie Kelly, Tammi Brown, Pamela Polland, Cathy Segal Garcia, Gail Dobson, Sandra Marlowe, Sonny Stitt and many more. He has authored three internationally published books on jazz improv as well as creating an extensive online jazz piano course, JazzSkills for Piano.
